Luke O’Bryan Wins Larry Connell Award For Collaborative Excellence

April 18, 2023

We are pleased to announce that Luke O’Bryan, Surface Maintenance Electrical Superintendent at our Fosterville Operations in Australia, is the fifth recipient of our annual Larry Connell Award for Collaborative Excellence.

Luke was chosen from an excellent group of regional nominees for his natural leadership strengths, and his ability to lead change and motivate others to be the best they can be. His high level of professionalism and collaboration in working with both internal and external partners are all attributes and values exemplified by Larry Connell, our retired Corporate Director of Regulatory Affairs.

This award annually celebrates an Agnico Eagle employee who is a consummate partner and respected peer, and who fosters our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Equality, Family and Trust.

Luke began his career at Fosterville Operations in 2006, working as a Surface Maintenance Electrician. In 2012, he was promoted to Electrical Supervisor, and subsequently to Electrical Superintendent in May 2020.

Luke’s many colleagues nominated him for this honour because of his positive attitude in the face of obstacles, his commitment and professionalism, and his collaboration with colleagues at all levels. They admire him because:

“Luke epitomizes what good leadership looks like. He is passionate about his trade and has the ability to engage and motivate others through coaching and developing connections,” says Natasha Vaz, Executive Vice President and COO, Ontario, Australia & Mexico. “Luke is generous with his time, possesses untold resilience and a positive attitude in challenging situations. He possesses humility in his leadership and puts others before himself while still maintaining clear boundaries and expectations in guiding the business objectives of his workgroup.”

In recognition of his achievement, Agnico Eagle will donate $5,000 CDN on behalf of Luke to the registered charity of his choice, the Lifeline Loddon Mallee – an organization focused on crisis support services, education, and training for dedicated volunteers to become Accredited Telephone Crisis Supporters. These selfless volunteers support and empower people who are struggling with their mental health. In 2022, the organization answered over 15,000 crisis calls.

We are also pleased to announce our regional finalists for this award:
