Agnico Eagle is closely monitoring developments around the outbreak of COVID-19. Our priority is to protect the health and safety of our employees and to provide a safe work environment. Agnico Eagle’s senior management team has been working across our global divisions to ensure all the correct protocols and safety precautions are in place. As Agnico Eagle employees, in times like these, we turn to our values as they have always guided our actions. We feel it is important to share with you the below letter to all employees world-wide from our CEO and Vice-Chair Sean Boyd that was sent out today.
Message from Sean to All Agnico Employees
These are challenging and uncertain times and we continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely. Fortunately, Agnico Eagle is a resilient company where our people care about each other and we are all focused on doing the right thing. Our number one priority is the health, safety and well-being of our people. It is also our responsibility as an employer to protect the health of our employees and to work closely with our communities and stakeholders during this critical period.
All of us also have a civic responsibility to respond to the recommendations made by Public Health Authorities and Governments of the countries where we operate to help slow down the virus spread by taking measures to reduce potential contacts between people and follow the recommendations on hygiene, self-protection and self-monitoring.
While we look after each other and our families, we also have a responsibility to make sure that this situation does not destroy the foundation of our society, our health system, our economy, our jobs. We need your creativity, your resilience and your willingness to work together, to help us get to the other side of this crisis in a strong position.
The situation is changing rapidly and our senior management team is working together to bring clarity on what we need to do to protect our people and keep our business strong. These plans are site-specific and at times department-specific but they all have similar components as it pertains to how our employees are treated. These plans will be communicated to you early this week and from then on, we will have regular communications to make sure that you know how we are adapting as conditions change. Things continue to move fast and we will remain flexible and trust each other that in the end, we will do the right thing.
Agnico Eagle has a long history of leadership and responsible behavior. We are stronger together and we have been through tough times in the past. I am grateful for the calmness and professionalism of our leaders across the Company. I am also thankful for the commitment and hard work of all our employees. Although this is a big challenge, I am confident that our people are motivated and committed to protect each other and Agnico Eagle.
