How Agnico Eagle makes mining work for our employees, communities and the environment

September 08, 2020

2019 sustainable development report highlights commitment to doing things differently.

Interested in learning more about how cows can benefit our environmental revegetation activities?  How our employees keep physically and mentally fit for work?  How we provide Inuit youth with opportunities to learn more about possible future careers by exposing them to different trades and organizing summer camps? Or how a Good Neighbour framework can help foster positive and collaborative relationships with the community and our neighbours?

These are just some of the out-of-the box initiatives Agnico Eagle’s employees are pursuing globally across our mine sites to ensure mining works for everyone – the theme of our 2019 Sustainability Report.

Beyond spotlighting our efforts to do things differently, the report also highlights Agnico Eagle’s improved safety performance; our community engagement initiatives; enhanced water, tailings and waste management programs at our operations; and, innovative thinking and technology that are helping Agnico Eagle adapt to changing climates around the world.

I want to assure you that, during these uncertain times, we continue to treat our employees and communities with respect, and to take our environmental responsibilities seriously. We will continue to work to build trust and share opportunities so that all Agnico Eagle stakeholders benefit from our mining experience. As our CEO Sean Boyd often says, “Responsible growth not only sustains our business, it can bring prosperity and a better quality of life for the benefit of future generations.”

New in our 2019 report is the inclusion of Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Metals and Mining disclosures and metrics, which identify financially material sustainability topics and metrics relevant for our industry.
