On February 21st at approximately 10:15 a.m., Agnico Eagle employees gathered to celebrate the first pour of gold from our Meliadine gold project, signifying that our newest mine is very close to starting commercial production.
But to our northern employees and the communities that surround this remote mining site in the Kivalliq region of Nunavut, the celebration means so much more. It marks the culmination of a journey that began over 12 years ago and today, is turning hopes for increased economic and social prosperity in Canada’s North into a reality.
For Agnico Eagle, from the moment we first acquired the Cumberland property in 2007 to our purchase of the nearby Comaplex site in 2010, we have had a singular mission – we were determined to develop these mineral resources for the benefit of all Canadians.
Meliadine’s first pour was a proud day for Agnico Eagle, for Nunavut and for Canada.
A new era is beginning and our journey in Canada’s North continues!
